Optional printing doesn't mean an end to paper receipts - it just means that we'll only be printing them if we need them.
Some people will still want to receive a paper receipt, and they still can. However, we found that over half of UK shoppers now want the option to refuse a paper receipt at the checkout, with 53% saying that retailers should try to reduce the amount of paper they waste on receipts.
We also found the tipping point for wanting a receipt was £25.50, so even those who love paper receipts might refuse them for small purchases. In any case, making paper receipts optional will have no detrimental impact for customers - anyone who wants a paper receipt will still be able to get one.
